The numbers we designed to.
Concept specs: design targets for a product that does not exist, not lab measurements.
38h
on one charge, noise cancelling on
Four 9-hour workdays, with two hours to spare.
42dB
noise cancelling, target for steady low hum
Aimed at air handling, engines and fans: the noise that never stops.
20,000
folds of the titanium hinge, design life
About eight folds a workday for ten years.
310g
with cushions and battery, any finish
Carried on a padded band, so the weight sits across the top of your head.
Four finishes, one shell.
One aluminium shell, anodised four ways. The titanium hinge and the red button stay the same on all of them.
Sand
A warm grey-beige. The one the build above is made in.
Made for calls, lectures and long focus.
Noise cancelling works best on steady sound: the hum of air handling, the rush of a train, the low murmur of an open office. The Tyst 01 is designed to take most of that away and leave voices clear, so a call, a recorded lecture or a podcast stays easy to follow.
- Calls
- Lectures and courses
- Podcasts
- Deep work
Steady office noise, outside and inside
With noise cancelling on, the low hum of air handling drops the most, keyboards drop by about half and distant talk drops a little, so voices stay audible.
Made to stay on through a working day.

The hinge
Titanium, on a steel pin. It is the only moving metal part in the band, and the cups fold inward on it to fit a bag.

The cushions
Memory foam under woven fabric. Fabric breathes over a long day and has no coating to peel. They clip on, so they can be replaced.
Four modes, and nothing else.
The concept app sets how much noise cancelling you get, picks one of four modes and updates the firmware. That is all it does.
Three imagined days with it.
Fictional quotes, written for this concept.
“I take four calls a day in a shared studio. Nobody on the other end can tell I’m not in a quiet room.”
“I record and edit a weekly podcast with these on. It’s the first hinge I’d trust in a tote bag without a case.”
“Four days of lectures on one charge, and the fabric cushions don’t crease my hijab.”
Questions
Can I order one?
No. Tyst and the Tyst 01 are a portfolio concept made for this page. Nothing is for sale, and the reserve button only shows what a reservation would look like.
Are the specs measured?
No. They are design targets for a product that was never built: 38 hours, 42 dB, 20,000 folds and 310 grams are what the concept aims for, not test results.
Would it work in an open office?
Noise cancelling is aimed at steady sound such as air handling and keyboards. It is not meant to remove a voice speaking to you, so you would still hear your name.
What are the cushions made of?
Memory foam under woven fabric, with no leather or coating. In the concept they clip on, so a worn pair can be swapped by hand.
Where do the pictures come from?
Every image of the headphones is rendered from a 3D model built for this page from simple shapes. No photos, and no real product.
Does this page play any sound?
No. Nothing on this page makes a sound, and nothing asks for your microphone.

In any finish. This is a demo: it shows what a reservation would hold, and sends and saves nothing.
